Description
The Erebidae are moths in the Noctuoidea superfamily, one of the largest families of moths by number of species, containing a wide variety of well known groups, including tiger (Arctiinae), tussock (Lymantriinae), piercing (Calpinae and others), and snout moths (Hypeninae). Some erebids are called owlets. They have only recently been elevated to family status.
