Description

The butterfly family Nymphalidae, also known as the brush-footed butterflies, are the largest family of butterflies with about 6,000 named species distributed globally. They are usually medium- to large-sized butterflies. Most have a reduced pair of forelegs and many hold their wings flat when resting. Many species are brightly colored and include popular species such as the Emperors, Admirals, Tortoiseshells, Fritillaries, and the Monarch.
