Description

The moth family Geometridae, known as the Geometers, contain about 35,000 species worldwide and over 1,400 species in North America alone. Their larvae are known as inchworms. Some can be serious pests. Females of some species are wingless. The Davidson College Entomology Lab is currently conducting research on a member of this family, the Fall Cankerworm (Alsophila pometaria) in an attempt to better monitor and control populations of this moth.
